Abstract The long-term relationship between temperature and hydroclimate has remained uncertain due to the short length of instrumental measurements and inconsistent results from climate model simulations. This lack of understanding is particularly critical with regard to projected drought and flood risks. Here we assess warm-season co-variability patterns between temperature and hydroclimate over Europe back to 850 CE using instrumental measurements, tree-ring based reconstructions, and climate model simulations. We find that the temperature–hydroclimate relationship in both the instrumental and reconstructed data turns more positive at lower frequencies, but less so in model simulations, …
Limited liability companies in Poland
2020
This study discusses the construction of a limited liability company (LLC) under Polish law. Due to the short length of the article and the large scale of the issue, this study is limited to the presentation of basic concepts. The construction of an LLC under Polish law is flexible and has been modernised, as a result of a number of amendments, including a fast registration path.
Neural activation after maximal isometric contractions at different muscle lengths.
2006
DESBROSSES K., N. BABAULT, G. SCAGLIONI, J.-P. MEYER, and M. POUSSON. Neural Activation after Maximal Isometric Contractions at Different Muscle Lengths. Med. Sci. Sports Exerc., Vol. 38, No. 5, pp. 937–944, 2006. Purpose: To investigate i) whether neural activation dependence on muscle length is preserved with neuromuscular fatigue and ii) whether fatigue induced by a maximal isometric exercise is muscle length dependent. Methods: Twelve male subjects performed two fatiguing quadriceps muscle exercises: FS is the fatigue carried out at short muscle length (S) (S = 40- of knee flexion) and FL is the fatigue at long muscle length (L) (L = 100-). Before and after each fatiguing exercise (i.e.…
Long period gratings formed in depressed cladding fibres
1997
There has been a significant interest in long period gratings, primarily due to their applications in gain-flattened erbium doped fibre amplifiers [1]. Up till now, cladding modes supported by the glass-air interface of an optical fibre have been used in a forward mode coupling scheme involving also the guided fundamental mode of the optical fibre. Here we propose an alternative technique. In a single mode depressed cladding fibre of an appropriate design (an example is given in fig. 1), the higher order LP11 mode can be made to be a leaky mode in such a structure, i.e. it can propagate for a short length before being stripped off the high index region beyond the depressed cladding. This en…
Knots in finite memory walks
2016
We investigate the occurrence and size of knots in a continuum polymer model with finite memory via Monte Carlo simulations. Excluded volume interactions are local and extend only to a fixed number of successive beads along the chain, ensuring that at short length scales the excluded volume effect dominates, while at longer length scales the polymer behaves like a random walk. As such, this model may be useful for understanding the behavior of polymers in a melt or semi-dilute solution, where exactly the same crossover is believed to occur. In particular, finite memory walks allow us to investigate the role of local interactions in the transition from highly knotted ideal polymers to almost…
Short-length storage of intense optical pulses in solid by adiabatic passage
2009
We propose a novel scheme of storage of intense pulses which allows a significant reduction of the storage length with respect to standard schemes. This scheme is particularly adapted to store optical information in media with fast relaxations.
2,8-Diazido-ATP — a short-length bifunctional photoaffinity label for photoaffinity cross-linking of a stable F1 in ATP synthase (from thermophilic b…
1995
Abstract To demonstrate the direct interfacial position of nucleotide binding sites between subunits of proteins we have synthesized the bifunctional photoaffinity label 2,8-diazidoadenosine 5′-triphosphate (2,8-DiN3ATP). UV irradiation of the F1-ATPase (TF1) from the thermophilic bacterium PS3 in the presence of 2,8-DiN3ATP results in a nucleotide-dependent inactivation of the enzyme and in a nucleotide-dependent formation of α-β crosslinks. The results confirm an interfacial localization of all the nucleotide binding sites on TF1.
